This is One North Stories, an A*START CENTRAL PodcastKathy He joins to share about Lerna Biopharma (formerly known as Cargene Therapeautics). Lerna is a 3 year old biotech founded out of the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS), A*STAR. They are leveraging Small molecule RNA (SiRNA) technology to treat liver disease through regeneration, especially cirrhosis of the liver which is considered as untreatable. Lerna is preclinical, having tested on multiple animal models and now preparing to go clinical. Kathy joined as CEO approximately 1 year ago. She chose Singapore and Lerna, wanting to build on the research of Torsten Wuestefeld and team of GIS. They have an in vivo functional genomic screening platform and found master regulators of liver regeneration.
