20: what is intuition?
Intuition is rooted by an inner knowing without rational or logical explanations. Intuition is not only rooted in neuroscience, it's linked with our right brain as a more creative and instinctual guide to use as we navigate life. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have been guided by many teachers throughout the last 10 years on ways to align with my intuitive nature. Whether it be through meditation, yoga or simply utilizing a pause before I act, I've learned that the ego is rooted in fear and lack, while my intuition requires trust and alignment with my highest self. After many hunches have come true (literally on a daily basis) and being spot on without a logical explanation, trusting my intuition has become my superpower. And it can yours too! Here are three ways you can cultivate your intuition: 1. Meditate: I’ve said it multiple times and I will keep on saying it – meditation helps channel your inner knowing and still the chatter of our mind. You can find meditative practices within sitting in stillness, practicing a repetitive motion or even creating art. Lean into the possibility that you can act from an awareness within in any of these modalities and see what occurs. 2. Recognize how your intuition guides you and follow it: This could be while playing sports, speaking to a friend, or even following intuitive directions on your drive home after work. Whatever it is for you, give yourself the freedom to make mistakes and listen to your gut no matter how little sense it makes at the time. Trust will develop over time and they’ll become more and more instant, giving you the option to fall into flow. 3. Track your hunches and/or dreams: Have you ever been somewhere and knew deep down that something was going to occur and you had no idea why? Or had a vivid dream and within the next week it comes true? This is your intuition speaking to you – so listen and track it! You might be surprised how spot on these notes are and could be your soul trying to guide you. There is no “right” way to follow your intuition. It’s a practice that develops over time and is unique to each person. Take some time to understand how your hunches appear and try giving yourself intentional time to follow them.
