7 Things Helping Me Grow as a Quiet Warrior

Family: learning to empower and trust my children’s decisions instead of nagging and controlling and using emotional blackmail, which stems from my own childhood experiences, perfectionism and desire to create as much certainty as possible and have as little uncertainty and room for mistakes as possible. Maybe this is about me wanting to earn the approval of my elders and be told I am a good Asian mum who has dedicated myself to ensuring my children are healthy and successful and safe from harm. What I need to do more is to take responsibility for my own healing from childhood trauma so that I can be my healthiest and most loving and joyful self as a parent instead of projecting my old insecurities on my children.

LESSON: TEND TO YOUR OWN INNER LANDSCAPE FIRST SO YOU CAN BE THE BEST PARENT TO YOUR CHILDREN.

Friendships: appreciating old and new friends by reaching out, having precious conversations around our finances, our physical and mental health, laughing and crying over parenting stories, relationships with our parents, how our aspirations and wishes are changing as we move through our 40s and 50s, our passion projects and hobbies, our careers and businesses, how we’re coping with changes to our health like perimenopause, brain fog, fatigue, and not being able to remember names as readily as before.

LESSON: FRIENDS ARE PRECIOUS - CHERISH THEM.

I am actively building new connections, expanding my network, growing my influence, attending more events, collaborating with others, learning about the good work others do, coming alongside to support with a like or comment on social media, introducing my connections to each other, spotlighting the quiet ones and the quality ones, and being open to making new friends wherever I go.

LESSON: CREATE NEW CONNECTIONS, ONE PERSON AT A TIME.

New knowledge and wisdom are always available, from books and random conversations eg carve out a time to write instead of waiting till you’re inspired.

LESSON: KEEP LEARNING, KEEP GROWING.

Trusting my intuition and my first instinctive reaction.
The more I listen and tune in and honour the voice of my intuition and the wisdom of my bodily reactions, the easier it gets to strengthen my trust for the next time, because the outcomes prove that I heard right and did the right thing)

LESSON: LISTEN TO YOUR INTUITION - IT ALREADY KNOWS THE RIGHT ANSWER.

My health setbacks are teaching me to slow down, let go, accept ambiguity and not having answers yet, take back my power by researching and asking for help instead of being in denial and learned helplessness, not self-flagellating or feeling guilty because I don’t have energy or cognitive capacity right now, and learning to appreciate the body’s divine intelligence and ability to heal itself.

LESSON: TREASURE YOUR HEALTH - IT IS YOUR MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE.

Knowing that I am making a difference with my podcast and posts. Even when no one seems to comment, someone is watching and reading and following along on your journey, so keep the faith, keep putting your thoughts out there, keep growing and sharing what you’re learning.

LESSON: STAY CONNECTED TO YOUR WHY AND YOUR PURPOSE.This episode was edited by Aura House Productions
