Rev. Brad Franklin talks about what scripture says about idolatry. Watch this episode on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/z2hPuwuzq-4 Sermon Notes: Isaiah 44:6-8 6 “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel,
And his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
‘I am the First and I am the Last;
Besides Me there is no God. 7 And who can proclaim as I do?
Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me,
Since I appointed the ancient people.
And the things that are coming and shall come,
Let them show these to them. 8 Do not fear, nor be afraid;
Have I not told you from that time, and declared it?
You are My witnesses.
Is there a God besides Me?
Indeed there is no other Rock;
I know not one.’ ” Do you recognize these names?
Astarte, Asherah, Cherobosh, Dagon, Molach, Tammuz, Baal.These are idols, wooden trinkets, that are gone and forgotten. The word of God has nothing positive to say about idolatry. Exodus 20:3
You shall have no other gods before me. Colossians 3:5
Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). Idolatry is no longer confined to wooden trinkets. Idolatry goes by a different name. Idolatry is anything that causes you to think less of God and is anything more important to God. Different names for our idols:Identity – no longer is it satisfying to be identified as a child of God
Material things
Status
Fame
Appearance
Entertainment
Social media When you remove God, there is always the danger of idolatry. Idols will seduce you and get your priorities all out of whack. Where will the gods of fun be when our lives are over? Do idols transcend time and space to hear, to heal and to help you? When was the last time a celebrity answered your prayers? When was the last time social media took away your pain? Can one’s desire for idols save you?
