Discernment vs. Discerning of Spirits Discerning of spirits is a spiritual gift listed in 1 Cor. 12:10. It is the ability to discern the spirit world and detect what is the true source; to know if something is of God or not, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Discerning of spirits is not a natural discernment like being able to judge good character. It is a spiritual gift which grows as you use it. You will be able to sense whether something is of a demonic nature or if it is the flesh at work. Where as discernment is the ability to judge well. The more you know the Word of God the more you can discern well. Discern by the Holy Spirit. Paul and Silas were able to discern the spirit that was speaking to them and they knew it was not of God. Acts 16 – Paul & Silas were on their way to prayer, when they were confronted with a spirit of divination. Deut. 18:10 – Divination is witchcraft & it’s forbidden, and God says anyone who practices these things are an abomination to the Lord! New Agers are a strong force behind world peace. Matt. 12:30 Jesus said “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s foes will be members of one’s own household” (Matthew 10:34-36). Jesus is the only Prince of Peace Isa. 9:6 If something is not bearing witness within you don't tolerate it. Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Are we spiritually asleep? Does anyone discern? Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 1 Cor. 6:15-17 We are called to hate what is evil and cling to what is good. May the Holy Spirit bear witness in our spirit of what is truly good and what is not of God. We bind and forbid interference, interruptions and all distractions. I command all blinders to fall off the hearers and the truth of God’s word to set them free. #discernment #discerning of spirits #peace symbol #hate what is evil #cling to what is good #no peace without Jesus www.cathycoppola.org www.houseofglorychurch.org
