Way back way, the magazine business was huge for capturing culture on textured texts and smooth expensive coloured pages. Magazines are a type of literature publication that came to the fore in the 1700s, targeting particular audiences with strategically curated content. Recently, as we have seen one of the implications of the Covid-19 pandemic was that it affected many sectors including the magazine business. However, Iqhawe Magazine, a zine which celebrates and represents Africa’s creative heroes, has reimagined the idea of this offering. The Zine, which was founded by Renaè Mangena and Anastatia Nkhuna in 2019, not only publishes authentic digital content, it also produces audio-visual material for social media and most significantly, when they launch their issues, they curate events during which their featured subjects - including talented creatives from all walks - perform and give a real sense of their work. The founders of Iqhawe Magazine Renaè Mangena and Anastatia Nkhuna join me now to walk us through their entrepreneurial journey.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
