EP08: Getting Lucky with Lisa Peters, Lucky Dog Library
Welcome to the eighth episode of Mother of Dogs. Tina is joined by Lisa Peters. About Lisa and Lucky Dog Library:Lisa Peters, a lifelong dog lover, and her husband, Jim, operate the Lucky Dog Library in Portland, OR. Lucky joined their family in 2016, a few years after Lisa had completed extensive treatment for breast cancer. In 2017, Lisa and Lucky became an animal assisted therapy team, regularly visiting a memory care unit and a local library. Lucky’s death in 2020 broke the family’s heart, and they decided that offering a dog-themed Little Free Library in their neighborhood would be a fitting way to carry forward Lucky’s sweet spirit. Jim built (and occasionally repairs) the library, while Lisa oversees inventory. Lucky Dog Library is proud to offer a fine selection of sticks, recycled tennis balls, dog-themed books, a rotating display of dog quotes and comics, and, yes, even a miniature dog park.Topics Covered:How surviving breast cancer led Lisa to a greater purpose and the eventual adoption of Lucky.Lisa explains the origin and evolution of the Lucky Dog Library. The importance of connecting people through the Library and making it a destination for everyone.Balancing the desire to adopt a dog and make them part of your family, with the sometimes-unpredictable financial commitments that come with caring for a dog.<br/>Follow:Subscribe to Mother of Dogs: https://www.motherofdogs.co/ Connect on Instagram: @motherofdogspod // @allidoiswinwithchloeConnect on Instagram: @LuckyDogLibrary https://www.instagram.com/LuckydoglibraryMentioned in the episode:Book - A Dog Walks Into a Nursing Home: Lessons in the Good Life from an Unlikely Teacher by Susan HalpernPet Partners: https://petpartners.org/PDX Sidewalk Joy Map: bit.ly/3ZehfkeBook - Good Grief: On Loving Pets, Here and Hereafter by E.B.
