Donnie Foster gives us a unique approach to discussing addiction and recovery in today’s episode, and we thank him for sharing his story with us. Growing up in an abusive household which led him to burning his house down in an attempt to kill his step-father and step-brother, eventually landing him in a psychiatric facility receiving electric shock therapy. Later he would run away and live on the streets of LA, homeless, for the next four years before joining the military. When the military failed him, he found himself in a bikergang; drinking, drugging, partying, and committing crime. He then found himself in prison for 12.5 years, just three doors down from the infamous Charles Manson. When he was released on parole he went back to Indiana where his mother was located, and this is when things began to turn around. He began ministering at a correctional facility and was then able to start rebuilding his relationship with his mother. He now says, “I don’t go back no more, I progress forward.”
