History Lesson: 5 Egyptian Monuments You Should Know (00:01:03)

We’re talking about five awesome monuments you should know about from Egyptian history. And, of course, we have to start with the Great Pyramid of Giza. Believe it or not, Khufu is NOT just a baboon. English just doesn’t phlegm as well as other languages. It’s pretty impressive that a PYRAMID was the largest man-made structure for such a long time. You can’t talk about the Great Pyramid without mentioning in the Sphinx! Are there differences between the Greek and Egyptian sphinxes? It’s important to acknowledge the dark history behind a lot of historical monuments. Let’s travel to Karnak next. Have you heard of this one before? It has so much historical significance, it’s wild! If you haven’t heard of Luxor, you’ve probably heard of Thebes. Do you remember talking about Aten before? There’s so much duality when it comes to the gods. Wait, HOW many pharaohs contributed to Karnak? There’s a reason why we’re talking about Hatshepsut and that reason is because she’s awesome. What’s a mortuary temple and what purpose does it serve? Okay, it would be a little cool to have a cult (not THAT kind of cult). Let’s learn a little more about Hatshepsut because she is FASCINATING. We’d love to learn more about her through a queer lens. Let’s learn more about Luxor/Thebes. Instead of being dedicated to a specific god or pharaoh, it was dedicated to kingship in general. Everyone wanted to say they were crowned here, even if they never made it that far (looking at you, Alex). The chapel inside changed a lot over time, for better or worse. You’ve probably heard of the Valley of the Kings, but do you know its official name? We’re learning so many new words this week! The Valley of the Monkeys is just as interesting, too! This week, we’re tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 15. Cobras wandering the halls? NBD. The grass is always greener on the other side! Sadie’s attitude about not fitting in is much healthier than ours was as kids. Imagine reliving a GOD’S memory!? It’s definitely weird that Isis looks like Sadie’s mom. C’mon, Osiris, you should know better than to trust Set! Is this the origin of the sarcophagus? When do you think we should do a Deep Dive on Set? No big deal, but Sadie almost died. Unfortunately, Osiris DID die, but it kind of worked out for him. The relationships between gods is always gonna be weird. Being the host for a god sounds hazardous to your health. Do we have any guesses as to who the mysterious kid was? Is Iskandar dying!?
