From Paredon Blanco to a shared vision of inclusivity
Today we’ll feel and experience Boyle Heights followed by an interview with amazing John Padilla! John E. Padilla is a stand-up comedy show producer and film producer from Boyle Heights, CA. John is currently producing a docuseries entitled Joking G’s in collaboration with video production company Chicano Hollywood. The series is about previously incarcerated and formally involved gang youth from the Homeboy Art Academy who have enrolled in John’s comedy workshop, Stand-Up & Be Heard: Building Confidence Through Comedy. From an academic perspective, the comedy workshop helps build up the students self-esteem, their confidence, and the students learn essential public speaking skills. The comedy workshop creates an empowering, safe environment where the students can share their trauma and speak their truth. We believe that if you can laugh at your past, you can be freed from it which gives you the freedom to create a new future.
