Giving Perspective of Christ in the Seasons of Life
The witness of John is staggering. He took the season of his life to tell us the truth about himself, yes, but he will also testify to greatness of Jesus and give the perspective of his position with Jesus. We must understand our identity and how it compares with Christ’s. With our identities, we must start with who we are NOT. We are not the Christ, and even broader than that, we are not God. John the Baptist could have been a bit less clear in how he said this. He could have let them place just a little bit of hope in him, but he didn’t! He was decisive in his response. No! I am not the Christ, nor anyone else that you’ve been expecting. I’m way less than Him! I’m just a pointer! So here’s my question, church. Are you pointing people to the Christ, like John the Baptist? Are we fulfilling one of your purposes as God’s people, to be his lighthouses and beacons for truth, pointing people to the Messiah, the ONE in whom you find LIFE!? Or, are you a lighthouse with its windows boarded up? You have this wonderful light, who is Jesus himself, and you’re keeping it to yourself? You have this wonderful power and boldness in you, the Holy Spirit, God himself dwelling in you, and yet you hold it in? Let’s give Jesus His proper perspective through all of the seasons of our lives.
