Helen Gillet - The Cellist
Helen Gillet, a Cellist, singer-songwriter, and surrealist archaeologist, joins Mad Creative for a conversation. She will be performing at Opus 40 in Saugerties, New York on June 16th at 6pm. Opus 40, a grand surrealist sculpture worked on by artist and Bard professor Harvey Fite for 37 years, is discussed, including whether it was ever finished. Helen reflects on the idea of finishing a piece of music, comparing it to the last stroke of a painting and questioning whether it is ever truly complete. Helen Gillet's reputation as an exceptional artist is reinforced by her collaborations with renowned musicians such as Smokey Robinson, Marianne Faithful, George S. Clinton, and Dr. John LeRoy Jones.She shares her experience of moving to New Orleans and the joy of participating in the celebration of getting on stage and performing which is a New Orleans rite of passage..
