Welcome to the Respect Her Hustle podcast! We’re bringing badass women from all walks of life in to tell their stories: businesswomen, comediennes, singers, filmmakers, politicians, actresses, scientists and maybe even a few astronauts. Because strong accomplished women have some damn good stories to tell.

In this episode our hosts DJ Nixx and founder Kristen Lucas talk with actress Ava Fratus, the lead actress of the award-winning short film Snowflake.

About Ava
Not every 6-year-old is ready for their own YouTube channel. But then, most 6-year-olds aren’t Ava Fratus. With her first recording, a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” Ava had found her calling. Singing, dancing, and rapping. In front of a live audience. With backup dancers of her own. Music touched something in Ava, a deep well of feeling. When she sang the words, she could intuitively grasped the emotions. And she discovered she could bring those emotions to life for her audience.

With her parents help and support, Ava began to chase that dream. She worked hard. And in the years since that first song, she’s covered chart-topping hits and her videos have been seen hundreds of thousands of times. She’s travelled up and down the East Coast, performing live for thousands more. She shared festival stages with the likes of J-Lo and Arianna Grande.

Producer Kristen Lucas saw Ava perform in 2014. She clocked the young girl’s poise, charisma and serious rap game, and knew she had found her “Snowflake.” Three years and 30 videos later, this pint-sized YouTuber was ready to make the jump to the big screen. At only 9 years old, Ava brought the same sensitivity and work ethic that had served her so well in music to the film set. She is now 13 years old and ready for the next part of her journey.

Don’t sleep on this girl - her story is just beginning.

Sign up for updates respectHERhustle.com
