How To Become An Oklahoma Real Estate Agent
Welcome to the Oklahoma Living and Real Estate Show. I’m your host, Tim Dumas with eXp Realty here in Oklahoma. Today's show is about me sharing the basics of becoming a real estate agent.
Becoming a Real Estate Agent in Oklahoma: A Step-by-Step GuideAre you passionate about the world of real estate and dream of helping people find their perfect homes or investment properties? Becoming a real estate agent in Oklahoma can be a rewarding career choice that allows you to work independently, be your own boss, and make a difference in people's lives. If you're ready to embark on this exciting journey, here's a step-by-step guide to help you achieve your goal:**Step 1: Meet the Basic Requirements**Before diving into the process, make sure you meet the basic requirements set forth by the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission (OREC). To become a licensed real estate agent in Oklahoma, you must:1. Be at least 18 years old.
2. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
3. Be a legal resident of the United States.
4. Have no felony convictions or convictions related to fraud or dishonesty.**Step 2: Complete Pre-Licensing Education**To become a licensed real estate agent, you are required to complete a certain number of hours of pre-licensing education from an OREC-approved education provider. In Oklahoma, you'll need to complete 90 hours of pre-licensing courses. These courses cover essential topics such as real estate principles, practices, contracts, financing, property management, and other key aspects of the real estate industry. It's crucial to pay close attention during these classes, as the knowledge gained will form the foundation of your real estate career.**Step 3: Choose a Brokerage**Real estate agents in Oklahoma are required to work under a licensed real estate broker. Finding the right brokerage to affiliate with is a significant step in your journey. Look for a brokerage with a good reputation, a supportive and experienced team, and a strong training program for new agents.Consider reaching out to different brokerages, meeting with their representatives, and asking questions about the support they offer, commission splits, and any fees associated with joining their team. Remember, the right brokerage can significantly impact your success and growth as a real estate agent.**Step 4: Submit Your License Application**After completing your pre-licensing education and finding a brokerage, you can now submit your real estate license application to the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission. The application process involves providing documentation, including transcripts from your pre-licensing courses and a criminal background check. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully and pay any necessary fees.**Step 5: Pass the State Licensing Exam**Once your application is accepted, you will be eligible to take the Oklahoma real estate licensing exam. The exam will test your knowledge of the topics covered in your pre-licensing education. Consider taking additional exam prep courses or utilizing study materials to increase your chances of passing on the first attempt.**Step 6: Obtain Errors and Omissions Insurance**Before activating your license, you'll need to obtain errors and omissions (E&O) insurance. This type of insurance protects you from liability in case a client makes a claim against you for errors or omissions in your professional services. Your brokerage may have specific recommendations for E&O insurance providers, so be sure to inquire with them.**Step 7: Activate Your License and Join the Realtors Association**Once you've passed the licensing exam and obtained E&O insurance, you can activate your real estate license and officially start working as a real estate agent in Oklahoma. You'll also need to join the Oklahoma Association of Realtors and the National As
