Jonathan Hood Of ESPN 1000 Chicago | Tell Me A Story I Don't Know
He’s the funny man of Chicago sports radio. But Jonathan Hood, aka:J Hood, is more than just laughs. He’s a student of the media and actually taught it at one of Chicago’s media schools. A 30 year veteran who began his career as an intern, Hood’s career has mushroomed into one as a co-host on ESPN 1000 in Chicago where he partners with another long time veteran, David Kaplan.
“I was able to get an internship there and then being able to be part of it, it’s a little bit interesting.” Much more than a little bit interesting. Hood has morphed into one of most likable and funniest hosts on the air.
Hood’s knowledge of the sports scene along with some of outrageously funny impressions adds some spice to any show he’s been part and he’s been part of several.
Hood grew up weened on television and not only comedy shows but the evening news. It gave him a template of what it’s like to be well rounded. Hood also does a podcast entitled “Under the Hood” along with being the voice of UIC (the university of Illinois at Chicago) basketball and baseball.
He also spent five years teaming up with the late Jeff Dickerson doing a national show for ESPN Radio and were on the air the day Kobe Bryant died. It was a very trying time for Hood but he’s managed to carve out a very successful career and would love one day to become a program director.
