“The Nine Worthies” goes from bad to worse, much to the delight of the audience, who laugh uproariously until the unexpected entrance of Marcade, a messenger from France. The news he delivers brings everyone’s joy to an end, leaving the King and his friends to reconcile with the sudden departure of the Princess and her company. They vow to reunite in one year’s time, provided the men complete works of service prescribed by the Ladies.
