Mary's Song
Upon learning that she was to give birth to the Savior, Mary travelled to a town in the Judean hills to visit her relative, Elizabeth, who was six months pregnant with Jesus' forerunner, John the Baptist. Elizabeth jubilantly rejoiced at seeing Mary and cried out, -Why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me--- -Luke 1-43-. Elizabeth blessed Mary, but Mary responded with a psalm-song of praise to God -vv. 46-55-. What Mary wanted Elizabeth and us to learn is that it was not about her. She was simply a part of God's larger plan to bring the Kingdom of God into the world. Sadly, many want to exalt Mary, but she would not have it so. Her soul magnified the Lord. Modern evangelicalism often makes the mistake of putting the convert on a pedestal as if the gospel makes the convert the center of God's plan and purpose. Again, it is not about us. It is all about Him. To God be the glory.
