In today's episode, we dive into a compelling and thought-provoking story that explores the complexities of violence, justice, and the resilience of the human spirit. Our guest, Matt Floyd, is a survivor of child abuse, a former biker boss, turned professional boxer, Pinky’s gym owner, and a youth mentor. His journey is one of immense struggle, as he shares his past and current experiences of being let down by the very systems designed to protect him.

Matt's story takes us through his turbulent upbringing, marked by being shuffled between foster homes and losing faith in the adults he once trusted. Eventually, he found himself on a path of becoming a teenage vigilante, driven by a desire to expose pedophiles and predators in and around the Perth area.
However, one act of violence against a pedophile led to consequences that left Matt serving 3.5 years in jail, while the pedophile, who was a police informant, received a mere 10-month sentence.

Seeking solace and relief, Matt turned to boxing, where he discovered a means to channel his pain and create a safe space for underprivileged kids who shared similar experiences. A gym free of judgment with the goal of community, rehabilitation, and self-discipline. A place created that he wished for his younger self.

As we navigate this conversation with Matt, it's impossible to ignore the discomfort and conflict that arises when contemplating the role of violence in society.
The questions that emerge are profound: When, if ever, is violence justified? Can two wrongs ever make a right? Who stands up to protect the most vulnerable among us, and how can we address the discrepancies within the justice system? Furthermore, why is there a lack of comprehensive studies focusing on the root causes of such dark realities?
In pondering these questions, a quote by Martin Luther King resonates:
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
How can we utilise love to combat such darkness, and when do we draw the line?
Join us as we embark on this deeply introspective journey, exploring the complexities of violence, justice, and the power of love. It's time to confront uncomfortable truths and challenge our own beliefs. Let's seek understanding and together, discover the path to a more compassionate and just world.
