Let me give you a scenario and you tell me what you think? Imagine having a rich and famous big brother who has assured you of help anytime you need. Has stayed true to his word for some time and you have grown to believe he will show up for you anytime then one day when you get into big trouble and need his help, you go meet him in his house busily dealing with a much bigger trouble. That is exactly how musicians in Ghana are feeling right now because the Musicians union of Ghana, the umbrella group that unites all musicians in Ghana irrespective of their music genre, is at war with itself. How will an industry grow when the very institution established to fuel its growth is struggling to survive? The Musicians Union of Ghana was meant to be the organ that pumped the blood in the music industry but for some reason, it has been fighting internal demons which is forcing it to die. Bice Osei Kuffour AKA Obour did a great job as a president for the union in his 8-years in office but all his efforts was reduced to ashes by union members and the union is back on its knees and crippled with court cases. Musiga has not had a president for 8 years and counting because members refuse to settle their differences and work as one unit. Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, who served as the Accra Regional Chairman of MUSIGA, dragged the union to court in 2019 after alleging some irregularities concerning the electoral process. Why is this happening in this country? Nothing seems to work properly.
