Welcome to Northfield, Vermont, "Where the Good Life Begins!" Chartered in 1781, the town is located in the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains. Northfield is located 10 miles from the state's capital, Montpelier, and about 3 hours from Boston and Montreal. The town is home to Norwich University, the oldest private military college in the US. The geographic center of Vermont is located in the town and has a marker on the university grounds. The town's economy began with farming and transitioned to various forms of manufacturing through the mid 20th century. The town is home to 6 covered bridges, the second highest concentration of covered bridges in the state. We hope you enjoy our trip to Northfield!
