NTC Pioneer, Senator Terrell McKinney
Senator McKinney was born and raised in Omaha, but District 11 has always been his home. District 11 is located in Historic North Omaha, which has issues that have persisted since his childhood. He is committed to being one with our community such that he has brought the voices of our community with him to Lincoln. Our state legislature had and still needs more young voices, especially from underserved communities, to give proper attention to 21st-century challenges unapologetically. Senator McKinney decided to prioritize LB450 – Adopt the Innovation Hub Act. Which is legislation to assist small businesses, entrepreneurship, & innovation in distressed communities. He has also co-sponsored LB1024 – Adopt the North Omaha Recovery Act & LB1025 – Appropriate federal funds to the Department of Economic Development for the North Omaha Recovery Grant Program. Which were introduced by Senator Justin Wayne (District 13). He was also influential in passing LB1112, which requires each Nebraska school district to include computer science and technology education in the instructional program of its elementary and middle schools beginning with school year 2024-25.
