Odilia Romero, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Communidades Indigenas en Liderazgo (CIELO)
Co-founder/Executive Director Odilia Romero and her organization Comunidades Indigenas en Liderazgo (CIELO) are committed to serving the multilingual indigenous communities in Los Angeles. There are over 17 indigenous languages representing thousands of indigenous families in Los Angeles today; these families are not able to access social services and information in their own languages. CIELO is supporting and responding to these needs by working with indigenous grassroot organizations and indigenous family networks to provide interpreter trainings, language classes, and other direct support. CIELO responded during the COVID-19 crisis by recognizing that many indigenous families were not receiving the necessary education and support; the organization provided over 2.3 million dollars of funding and vaccinated over 15,000 indigenous community members. Ensuring visibility and protecting human rights is a critical role that CIELO provides indigenous communities; CIELO'S advocacy is vital given that displacement due to climate change and political discrimination will continue for these vulnerable populations. HealthCare Untold celebrates the important work of Odilia Romero and CIELO. You can support CIELO's Human Rights work by donating directly to CIELO at http://mycielo.org .#OdiliaRomero#CIELO#stoplanguage violence
