Parashat Jukkat-Balak In English
JUKKAT-BALAK Moshe taught the laws of the Red Heifer, whose ashes purify a person contaminated by coming into contact with a corpse. After 40 years of traveling through the desert, the people of Israel arrive in the desert of Zin. Miriam dies, and the town is thirsty for water. Elohim tells Moshe to speak to a stone and commands him to give water. Moshe gets angry with the rebellious Israelites and hits the rock. Moshe and Aaron will not enter the Promised Land. Aaron dies in Hor Hahar, and his son, Eleazar, succeeds him in the post of the kohen. Venomous snakes attack the Israelite camp after another eruption of discontent in which people "speak against Elohim and Moshe"; Elohim commands Moshe to place a copper serpent on a tall pole, and everyone who looks upwards will be healed. The people sing a song in honor of Hashem by the miraculous well of water in the desert. Moshe leads the people in the battles against the Emorite kings Sikhon and Og (who seek to prevent the passage of the Israelite people through their territories) and conquers their lands, which are east of the Jordan River. Moshe leads the people in the battles against the Emorite kings Sikhon and Og (who seek to prevent the passage of the Israelite people through their territories) and conquers their lands, which are east of the Jordan River. Balak, the King of Moab, quotes the prophet Bilaam to curse the People of Israel. On the way, Bilaam travel by his donkey, who sees the angel, that Elohim sends to stop them before Bilam. Three times, from three different places, Bilaam tries to pronounce his curses; Instead, each time, he pronounces blessings. Bilaam also prophesies about the end of days and the coming of Moshiach. The people fall to the seduction of the daughters of Moab to idolize the Moabite idol Peor. When a high-ranking Israelite official publicly takes a Midianite princess and takes her to his tent, Pinchas kills them both, thus stopping the plague from spreading among the people.
