Psalm 113

The book of Psalms contains three collections titled Hallel -Praise-. These psalms are 113-118- 120-136 and 146-150. The first set was used in the feasts -Passover, Pentecost, and Yom Kippur-. The second set were sung as -pilgrimage psalms- as worshippers came to the feasts. The third set was used in daily prayers in the synagogues or temple.--Psalms 113-118 are of special interest because they were sung by the Lord and His disciples on the night of His betrayal. Matthew 28-30 and Mark 14-26 tell us that they sang a hymn before going to the Garden of Gethsemane. Psalms 113 and 114 are sung before the Passover meal and Psalms 115-118 were sung toward the conclusion of the observance.
