Rebecca Mosley on Rebuilding Yourself When the Worst Possible Things Happen
CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains quite a bit of conversation around suicide. Please see the resources at the bottom of the show notes if you or someone you know is struggling and needs support. I love this week’s episode because it’s a true heart-to-heart with my dear friend and absolute badass cousin Becca, who's an excellent role model for anyone who’s been dealt some rough fucking cards and has committed to a life of authenticity and joy.Just one example of that is her choice to embrace ethical non-monogamy. Becca takes us on her path of exploring relationships, questioning societal norms, and carving out a space that's authentically hers— all while navigating those tricky moments of other peoples’ opinions without taking them on. (And if you’re excited to dig more into the topic of ethical non-monogamy, you’re definitely gonna want to tune into the next episode coming, #19!)Some people experience more than their fair share of trauma (is there such a thing? Can we make a fair share 0?? #iwish 🙃) As her family member and close friend, I’ve also experienced some of the traumas Becca has dealt with more in a much more indirect way, and witnessed what it’s been like for her to be at the epicenter of, well, basically some of the worst kind of shit people can go go through. From surviving unimaginable losses to shining a light on her own struggles, she's an inspiration for anyone who goes through trauma and thinks to themselves, “how the hell am I supposed to go on?” After losing 2 immediate members to suicide by the time she was 18, Becca is no stranger to therapy— and nd you won't want to miss her candid thoughts on the therapy rollercoaster. Finding the right therapist AND the right kind of treatment in general is often an evolving process, and I personally am so grateful that Becca has been willing to engage in whatever kind of healing work she needs. We can all learn from that kind of willingness and commitment. We also talk about the ~menty B~ (LOL thanks Gen Z) Becca went through about 2 years ago and how she's been rebuilding her sense of self, with a little help from family and friends, and a very cute cat and dog (the latter of whom joined us for the interview, so check the video on YouTube for some top notch Dahlia content!).This episode is not ALL about struggle— Rebecca reveals what she's loving most about life right now. Even through the hard shit, there is always beauty to be found. You might want to grab a tissue or 10, but get ready to be inspired and empowered by Rebecca’s remarkable journey - I am so freaking proud of her. Tune in and join us for a conversation that's unfiltered, real, and unforgettable. 🌟 This episode covers:[5:30] What does it mean to be a bad bitch[6:35] Her path of ethical non-monogamy[7:55] How to handle the opinion of people who don’t understand[11:45] Her history with trauma and mental health[13:40] Losing her sister and her mom to suicide[17:45] Her experience with therapists[19:50] Her ‘shit hit the fan’ moment[28:20] Rebuilding your sense of self and leaning on emotional support animals[32:45] The value and support of a ‘best friend’[35:50] Dealing with loss on a day to day[38:00] What she enjoys and loves most about life right now<br /> Resources mentioned in this episode:Watching: Brandi Carlile - In the Canyon Haze, Live from Laurel CanyonReading: How to Change by Katie MilkmanLoving: Barre Definition by Jacquelyn Umof, aka @actionjacquelyn
