This Mississippi native, who served as a professor of painting and drawing at Nicholls State University from 1991–2012, shares how he got his start as an artist in the Mississippi Delta and ended up in South Louisiana. The award was established by Cary Saurage and the late Derek Gordon, former CEO of ACGBR, to commemorate the life, work and dedication of the internationally recognized artist, who also served as a professor and director of the LSU School of Art and recognizes the quality and breadth of work by a visual artist who has established their personal and professional lives as long-time contributing members of the Baton Rouge community.
