S2E2 | More Than A Flashlight - Disaster Preparedness with Jeff Donaldson
"Preparedness isn't a bag by your front door, preparedness is a way of life." In this episode, Alec and James kick things off by discussing Nova Scotia's insane summer weather of wildfires and flash floods, and a tragic Halifax Reddit post involving a lost birthday cake
.
Alec and James are then joined by special guest Jeff Donaldson. Jeff is a Veteran, Emergency Preparedness Guru, Researcher, Author, and Adjunct Professor. He is the host of the Inside My Canoehead podcast, which is coming up on it's 200th episode. He also happens to be Alec's uncle. In this conversation, Jeff shares some realistic truths about emergency preparedness including why an emergency bag is not enough, the power of community and connectedness, the importance of insurance, what we can do to be more prepared and why some evacuation strategies just don't cut it. How prepared are we really? What emergencies might be on our horizon? Take a listen and find out.
