Sabbath was designed to be an invitation into the life of God, but in Jesus’ time, Sabbath was distorted. Sabbath became a religious rule that actually kept people from experiencing the life of God. In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus says “the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (Mk. 2:27). What does he mean? What is the Sabbath? It was made for us? Jesus invites us to see the Sabbath anew.
