Matthew 5 records the beginning one of Jesus’ most memorable messages – the sermon on the mount. The beatitudes in this chapter point us to what a truly supreme blessedness in life looks like. Blessed are the poor in spirit and those who mourn, for they will still see heaven and the Lord’s comfort through grief. Blessed are the meek and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for He will entrust you with more when you surrender to Him. Blessed are the merciful, for you will also receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, and are peacemakers, for they will be close to God. And blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake. The reason why the sermon on the mount is the king of all speeches, is because it’s the speck of the King of all kings.
