Testimony of Fr. Sidney Speaks
Testimony of Fr. Sidney Speaks Fr. Sidney Speaks grew up in Baltimore, MD. He was the firstborn of a large family with a devout Catholic mother and an alcoholic father. He first heard the call to the priesthood while doing his chores vacuuming at the age of 11. He ignored the call as he pursued other interests in High School, such as baseball and girls. Toward the end of High School, he befriended a priest that also felt he had a calling. He listened to the priest’s advice and went to St. Joseph Seminary in New Orleans. Unfortunately, he was not ‘all in’; he tried dating in Seminary, but the Lord had his hand on him, and Sidney continued his studies and graduate work in Washington DC. Fr. Sidney was assigned to a couple of parishes as Assoc. Pastor in New Orleans. Still not content, he left his order of St. Joseph, no longer responsible to commit to his community vows. He became a Catholic High School teacher and was out dating again. About 5 years later, Our Blessed Mother wooed him again and told him to do whatever her son was asking of him, come back and just say ‘yes’ every day. The St. Joseph order would not take him back, but Archbishop Aymond assigned him to a parish in New Orleans. Fr. Speaks is very grateful for all the prayers prayed by Magnificat women for his priesthood.
