Testimony of Shannon Austin Testimony of Shannon Austin. Shannon focuses on three areas of her life, how life shaped her, how she helped and hindered God’s plan for her and how God showed up even when she didn’t. Shannon grew up in Louisiana. She was an only child from a broken home. Her father came back from the Service a changed man from all the trauma he experienced which caused a troubled marriage. Her parents divorced when she was very young. Shannon and her mother moved into her grandmother’s home. Shannon’s mother was very depressed and became an alcoholic. She was very withdrawn from Shannon. Shannon’s grandmother was a very devout Catholic and loved her in ways her mother could not. As a teenager, Shannon wandered from her faith and got involved in drinking and sneaking out at night. She went to college and got a degree in Psychology and Masters. Soon after, Shannon met her husband, Steven and had four children. They rediscovered their faith in God together. The family came back to the sacraments and have become very involved in various ministries in their parish. Shannon recently acquired a certification in Equine therapy.
