The First Mission of the Risen Lord
Jesus stopped Mary Magdalene from clutching His feet in her jubilant worship as she discovered that He was risen from the death. He first needed to return to the Father and sprinkle His blood on the Mercy Seat in Heaven. In the meantime, Mary was to inform the disciples of His resurrection. She accomplished this task but was met with disbelief. That evening, Jesus Himself came into the lock room where the disciples were hiding out of fear of the Jews. He greeted them with -peace be to you,- and showed them his wounds. Their reaction was great joy. Eight days later, He appeared to them again, this time to restore the faith of Thomas, absent from the first appearing. The focus of John in these appearances was to provoke faith in the reader as stated in verses 30 and 31. Do you believe in and trust the risen Lord for your salvation, even though you have not seen Him- If you do not trust Him now, be warned, for the day is coming when every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess the Jesus is Lord. Those who will not bow now, will then.
