The Preeminent Christ
The word preeminent can be defined as surpassing all others, having paramount rank, dignity, or importance. Synonyms for preeminent include: sovereign, supreme, highest, greatest, and foremost. The Apostle Paul destroys the false teachings pervading the Colossian church by unwrapping the glory and beauty found in the preeminent Christ. Jesus, in Colossians 1:13-15 is presented as the Son and beloved king, the redeemer, the image of the invisible God, and the firstborn of all creation. When properly understood these characteristics of Christ destroy the heresies and false teachings that are leading many astray in our day. Christ is supreme, He’s sovereign, He’s eternal, He’s king, He’s Son, and He’s Lord and must be worshiped as such.
