Tribalism is a disease

I find it a curious phenomenon that we regularly cite tribalism as one of the challenges confronting Nigeria. Everyone laments the malaise on newspaper pages, at conferences, and in academic papers. Meanwhile, we all manifest tribalism in the arguments and comments we make. People use newspaper pages and their social media platforms to insult and make derogatory comments that show they hate tribes other than their own, yet they’re the foremost complainants about tribalism. The rest of us subtly nod when others insult people of other tribes. Yet we blame others for tribalism while we too promote it. It’s a challenge I’ve consistently pointed out: others are always to blame for all of the nation’s problems; the fact that we also contribute to them doesn’t cross our minds. You can no longer see or identify yourself solely as a member of a tribe, but as a citizen of a nation of one people working toward a common purpose The post Tribalism is a disease first appeared on Pandastudio6.
