Sellout Crowd columnist Guerin Emig welcomes Tulsa athletic director Rick Dickson for episode 5 of Mind Games on the Sellout Crowd network. Dickson hired Kevin Wilson as TU football coach last December, a risk given the controversial 2016 end of Wilson’s tenure at Indiana. Dickson is candid on that hiring process and the expectations for the second-time head coach at TU. He also opens up about the challenges of helming the athletics department at a small, private school at a time it’s easy to get left behind both competitively and financially. He compares his two tours of duty at TU, having been Golden Hurricane AD from 1990-94, reflects on a you-can’t-be-serious Key West encounter with Mike “Miguel” Leach, and admits he screwed up by opting out of Drew Pearson’s drills rotation as a 1970s TU defensive back… right to Steve Largent’s.
