Unveiling Oregon's Terroir through Bryn Mawr Wines
Dive into the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley as we journey through the flavors and stories of Bryn Mawr Winery. In this captivating episode, we revisit a day steeped in wine exploration, tracing the path of our encounter with Karen Howard Smith, the Director of Hospitality at Bryn Mawr. The date was May 29th, 2021, during the McMinnville Wine Competition, where fate led us to this remarkable destination.Karen's connection with the world of wine extends beyond Bryn Mawr, intertwining with the winemaking magic of her husband at Autonomy Wines. However, the true essence of Bryn Mawr is perhaps best embodied by the luminary figure of Rachel Rose – the acclaimed winemaker and vineyard manager. Rachel's journey into winemaking, driven by her love for food, nature, and science, led her from the world of molecular cellular and developmental biology to the realm of viticulture. As we embark on this odyssey, we explore the challenges that led Rachel to choose Oregon's cool climate over the allure of Burgundy. We delve into the hurdles she faced and the paths she traversed before carving her legacy at Bryn Mawr. The Bryn Mawr story unfolds across diverse varietals – Pinot, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Tempranillo – nurtured across 32 acres of vineyards. We witness the passionate collaboration between Rachel and the owners, John and Kathy, as they nurture their vision into reality. A winery was born in 2018, followed by a splendid tasting room in 2019, creating an enchanting haven for wine enthusiasts.Beyond the vineyards, Bryn Mawr exemplifies sustainability in practice. With a LIVE certification and eco-conscious practices, the winery embraces innovation and environmentally conscious decisions. Rachel's meticulous approach extends to every aspect of the process, down to the choice of materials for capsules and labels, revealing a commitment that transcends the glass. Our sensory journey takes us through a medley of wines, each narrating its own tale. From the sparkling Rosa to the nuanced Chardonnays, the innovation series, and the alluring Tempranillo, every sip uncorks a story unique to Bryn Mawr's terroir.Join us as we traverse through the vineyards, embrace the stories, and celebrate the harmonious marriage of craftsmanship and nature that Bryn Mawr embodies. Whether you're an oenophile or an enthusiast, this episode uncorks the essence of Oregon's wine community, bringing a taste of the Willamette Valley directly to your ears.
