Woman Indicted for Allegedly Killing Former Boyfriend in Grisly Crime

A 30-year-old Texas woman, Kassandra Aguayo, has been indicted on one count of first-degree murder in the 2022 slaying of her 66-year-old former live-in boyfriend, Ramon Flores. The indictment follows a chilling sequence of events in which Aguayo is alleged to have put a plastic bag over Flores' head, stabbed him in the stomach, and watched him bleed out to ensure his demise.
The tragic incident unfolded on November 11, 2022, when Lubbock Police Department (LPD) officers responded to a call reporting a dead body at a residence in the 5400 block of Interstate 27. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the lifeless body of Ramon Flores, who had apparently succumbed to stab wounds.
LPD investigators from the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit quickly identified Kassandra Aguayo as a person of interest in the case. Subsequently, they obtained a warrant for her arrest. On November 18, 2022, deputies with the Hale County Sheriff's Office located Aguayo at a residence on West 5th Street in Plainview, where she was taken into custody and charged with Flores' murder.
Following her initial arrest, Aguayo was initially booked into the Hale County Detention Center before being transferred to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where she has remained in detention.
A probable cause affidavit sheds light on the horrifying details of the crime. It states that Aguayo allegedly confessed to a friend, who subsequently shared the information with the police. According to the affidavit, Aguayo described her actions, starting with an attempt to suffocate Flores with a plastic bag. She resorted to stabbing him in the torso multiple times when that method failed.
"The knife had broken, so [Aguayo] got another knife from the kitchen and stabbed him again," the affidavit reportedly stated. Shockingly, Aguayo allegedly told the witness that she watched Flores to ensure he died.
Investigators believe Flores knew his attacker since there were no signs of forced entry at his residence. A family member had reportedly heard a woman's voice in the background during a phone call with Flores on November 10, the day before the discovery of his body. Flores had sounded surprised by the unexpected guest, leading the family member to suspect that Aguayo had visited him. Aguayo had previously lived with Flores until February 2022.
During a police interview, Aguayo claimed to have been working at the Lubbock State School all day and into the night on November 10. However, police records contradicted her statement, showing no record of her presence at work that day, and she failed to provide a valid reason for her absence.
Kassandra Aguayo currently remains in detention with a bond set at $500,000. She is scheduled for a court appearance where she will face the charges against her in the coming weeks.
