134: Forgiveness: Your Key To Freedom with Bruce and Toni Hebel
Welcome to episode #134! This week, Matt and Braden talk to Bruce and Toni Hebel about the power of forgiveness and what it looks like to truly forgive from our hearts.Trials are learning opportunities
Bruce and Toni has one of the worst stories of betrayal that their Focus on the Family counsellor had ever heard. They thought they had forgiven the main culprit in their story because they wrote in a letter that they had done so. However, symptoms of unforgiveness were still present to the point where Bruce's friend pointed it out to him. Bruce followed up his friend's suggestion to forgive by hearing from God about who and what to forgive. Once he did that, he brought the idea to his family so that together with their kids, they could truly forgive those who had wounded them. You are forgiven, so pay it forward
Matthew 18 contains a parable where Jesus talks of the unplayable debt that His Father has forgiven each of us for. In this story, it's outlined that if we then don't pay this forgiveness forward by extending mercy to someone who has wronged us, we will be turned over to tormentors. This torment will show up in our lives through things like depression, anxiety, mental fogginess, fatigue, physical ailments, and more. God expects forgiven people to forgive others.Forgive the action, not just the person
Jesus teaches in Matthew 18 to forgive from the heart. This includes specifically forgiving from our heart a person's specific actions or words that initiated the wound. If we say that we forgive the person, that's more on a mind-level but it neglects to address the pain each word or action caused on a heart level. Forgiving the specific thing that caused the wound brings freedom in our hearts.Share this with your friends
