Welcome to episode #173! This week, Matt and Braden are bustin' myths again. They're taking a look at the impact of porn use impacts the world at large, including the porn industry and human/sex trafficking.  Porn use impacts the world at large. Even if you aren’t buying anything and clicking on a free video, they are able to track the views and emboldens them to keep producing and making more videos. We are contributing to the problem. The porn industry generates almost (if not over) 100 billion dollars over a year. That dollar amount reflects the amount of traffic to the sites - and it is more than twitter, amazon and netflix combined. You are contributing every time you are on a porn site. They store your information and use it and sell it to ad companies that will target you to keep clicking and consuming. Money is being made off of your views.
The reason porn gets made is because someone is consuming it.When you’re consuming something, you are impacting people, you’re contributing. Not everyone in the porn industry wants to be there. They are manipulated and used. And even if they are there by choice, the impact on them is real and terrible and is a life-long sentence. We don’t think of the impact watching it alone in our room has. But our watching impacts the people behind the screen - the producers, the actors. Our choice to engage in porn has as much impact as someone choosing to act in it. If we are looking at porn, we are the consumer.
Your porn use is directly related to human trafficking. It doesn’t matter if it is amateur or hard-core pornography - both have a tie in to human sex trafficking. There are victims of trafficking who have been found on different porn websites. The foundation of sex/human trafficking is pornography. If we want to deal with the human trafficking issue, we first need to deal with the porn issue. When we engaging in pornography, we are enabling the pushing of such evil, depraved activities. By battling the issue and finding conviction through God's loving kindness, we are able to move in freedom, turn around and help others and are becoming an advocate. The shift of moving from consumer to advocate starts a ripple effect of positive change. By saying no, you are not contributing and being an example.
