Why would you want to do something else?”  “Oh, you don't have enough executive presence.” We don't have the budget for that.” Or, “If I promoted you, I would have to promote everyone else at that level.”There are so many lame excuses but the bottom line is you aren't being seen as the leader that is at the next level.
