#371 Making Sense of "Woke" (part 3); Grandma Agnes and the Star Filled Sky
Grandma Agnes would have loved the brilliant star filled sky. She grew up on a farm and loved Gods creation...nature, the family and the Church.

…Last night reminded me of her. The crescent moon and Venus were spectacular as were the incredible array of constellations. How someone could have looked up at that sky filled panorama and not be filled with the awe and wonder of the Cosmos truly amazes me. As I stood there, in humility and thankfulness, I knew that the next morning I would read about another PRIDE event. Human beings filled with so much PRIDE as to miss the reality of their minuscule existence. From outer space the whole pride parade would not even show up as a speck on the surface of our gas-fired planet .

My grandmother Agnes, an orphan from Poland with a third grade education, knew that the speck she was mattered. That each and every human being mattered. Not for their size, power or sensual appetites...but because they were created in love by God who knew each of them by name.

Agnes, with her third grade education, did not overly concern herself with dogma and doctrine, as important as they were to her. For she had encountered the Person of Jesus Christ and intimately knew Him and Our Blessed Mother. She innately understood what another Polish Native, Pope John Paul II, meant when he spoke of the need to become a "Conscious Catholic". To know that human dignity came from God, not from men. That we are beings endowed with reason and free-will and therefore are personally responsible, both impelled by our nature and bound by moral obligation , to seek the truth, especially religious truth. Our inherent human dignity also binds us to adhere to the truth once it is known, and to direct our whole lives in accordance with the demands of truth.

Don't forget to sign up for our Newsletter!!
