The journey of African music can be traced to the Louisiana area of the Americas. During this time, the African Lute was reinvented as the Banjo, which gave birth to various music genres such as Banjo Rhythms, folk music, blues music, ragtime music, and eventually jazz music. Jazz music was later exported back to Africa and developed into Afro-Jazz, which in turn influenced other genres like Kwaito. Additionally, the roots of twerking and wining can be traced back to the shimmies and African Initiation schools for girls.
