Paul had been delivered from the mob in Jerusalem by the Roman garrison under the command of Claudius Lysias -chapter 23-. The proconsul, Felix, held court in Caesarea where the Jewish leaders brought false charges against Paul. Felix found no fault in Paul, but -willing to do the Jews a favor- kept Paul imprisoned for two years. During this time Paul reasoned with Felix and his wife, Drusilla concerning -concerning righteousness, self-control and judgment to come- -chapter 24-.--Felix left Paul in prison and passed the affair to the next proconsul, Festus. Like Felix, Festus -willing to do the Jews a favor- tried to get Paul to go back to Jerusalem. Paul, realizing the danger, appealed to Caesar -chapter 25-1-12-. Felix, realizing he had no charges against Paul appealed to Herod Agrippa and his wife, Bernice, for help since they were more familiar with -questions against him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, who had died, whom Paul affirmed to be alive- -25-19-. This sets the stage for one of the great trials in human history.
