Brady Lucas | Lessons from a Childhood Leukemia Thriver
Brady is an author, philanthropist, and relationship-builder. Brady recently released his first book titled Smiley's Smile. His inspiration to become an author and write the book, came from his experience undergoing treatment for 2 childhood cancer diagnoses and finding power within education. Brady believes all children should have access to information that can empower them to understand and be involved regardless of their age within their healthcare journey. In addition to being an author, Brady works as the Assistant Director of Foundation Relations for Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health. Brady also works as an Institutional Review Board Member for the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP)/Be The Match®. Outside of his professional career, Brady is the President of the Penn State Biobehavioral Health Alumni Group, Member of the The Board of Advisors for Child Life On Call, and a Peer Connect Volunteer/ Education Resource Reviewer for Be The Match®. During our conversation, Brady shares the symptoms that sent him to the doctor for an evaluation, how his diagnosis changed his perspective about life, how the Life on Pause Podcast helped produce supports young adults with cancer, how difficult it is for parents of children with cancer, the knock on the door that led him to change the course of his life, the lessons he learned about himself, and the underlying theme of empowerment through his book, Smiley’s Smile. For more information and to purchase the book, go to bradylucasauthor.com
