Cary's guest Patrick Murray-Veterans of Foreign Wars Legislative Director on What Benefits Veterans Don’t Know About & Help with Red Tape for Vet’s & families
This episode Cary's guest Patrick Murray, who is the National Legislative Director at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and we talk about what the VFW means to veterans & their families. This discussion is extremely helpful for Veterans seeking help in navigating the benefits they are entitled to. Servicemen, Veterans, and their families will find this episode very helpful, including: -How they assist and advocate for veterans to receive VA benefits they are entitled to and oftentimes don’t even know about or have experienced great difficulty navigating VA Red Tape and bureaucracy on their. own behalf.-VA/VFW provides full burial for combat veterans.-We learn how VA Service Officers become each veteran's personal advocate.Excerpts: Patrick Murray:“If you do decide to utilize a VFW service officer, they will ask you to sign what's called a limited power of attorney. Then that will allow us to represent you in that claims process up to and including if there's an appeal needed. They will help file the initial claim track it, and make sure that the results come through if there is something that needs to be appealed. Our service officers that are for the limited power of attorney come in we can be your advocate there. We can go all the way up to representing you at the Board of Veteran Appeals, here in Washington, DC.”Cary Hall:“But talk about how do they determine because I've got full benefits, but how do they determine, you know, the level of benefit you're going to receive if you're and how do you guys help people advocate for that?”Patrick:“So we help people sign up for health care and benefits. VA health care is first class world-class care. There have been plenty of studies by the Journal of Medicine that have shown that V.A. care is sometimes as rough as it takes a beating in the media. Some days is actually one of the best in the country. Veterans have better outcomes who are utilizing V.A. health care.”“They like their providers. They like the community in which, you know, they're seen being seen with other veterans, being seen by doctors and nurses who know and are exposed and are culturally competent to work with veterans. Those are all positive things that we want to help push people in as the primary provider of care, of veterans care. As for benefits, there are some absolutely transformative benefits offered by the Department of Veteran Affairs, such as the VA home loan, the GI Bill, and the Veteran Readiness Employment Program.EP1838VFW.org/assistancehttps://vfw.org/
