Today's gospel instalment- 11-13-2022--Message Title- 1. The condescension of Christ in David 2. Is there not a cause--Text- 1 Sam 17 vs 28-29--1. We continued with the Old Testament gospel narrative of David, his brothers, Israel and the Philistines.--2. In Old Testament gospel teaching as in the New, the testimony is organized around the person who is a type of Christ. That is what opens up the testimony.--3. And in our passage, David is the type of Christ that Goliath was preaching of-the One representative who is able to fight to the death for the salvation of His people.--4. And that to say, all matters of salvation were transacted representatively so that all of God's people were justified simultaneously in the One Act of Christ's obedience.--5. There is never gospel telling where there is no matter of sin and condemnation. And where these exist, there is also the testimony of the Law and its inability to save-hence the rejection of Saul by God as the king over Israel.--6. And in the testimony of Eliab, God preached His rejection of the Old Covenant as the means to rule and save His people and yet the same Law testified of Christ-His ultimate chosen king, but typified by David.--7. Eliab in his seemingly condescending questions towards his brother, David, was giving testimony of the mission of Christ.--8. Christ is God incarnate, the Logos who added human flesh with the express purpose of accomplishing salvation of His people who were laboring under the fear and burden of sin, death and condemnation -Goliath-. --9. So, the incarnation of Christ had a purpose-a purpose that Christ would purchase and justify His people from sin. This is what He came to do and this He
