Disha, University of Delhi student of fashion design
Diagnosed in 2007 at the age of 12 years, she had all the symptoms, but the real diagnosis was only possible when she went into diabetes ketoacidosis and landed up in the ICU. Only when diabetes became a reality, she found out that she also has celiac disease. She and her family were scared of this new situation which not only drained them mentally but also financially. Her hospital, the doctors not only helped in the treatment but also supported financially. Her consultation with the dietitian changed her perspective towards healthy life and that she can lead a life as normal to anybody else. She found out she has a lot of healthy options available to eat even with a condition like type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. Not only with her management this way, she could impart knowledge of healthy eating to her family and friends. One thing that Disha wants to change in herself is her introverted behaviour to a positive extrovert. However, she strongly says that she will never ever let Diabetes come in between her life and career goals, which depicts Disha positivity and conviction in herself.
