On this brand new episode, we do a deep dive into the importance of delegation, why we DON’T do it, and why we SHOULD. We wrap up the episode by touching the 5 bullet points on effective delegation that EVERY leader needs to know.(1:32) Why don’t we delegate? There are a number of reasons, beginning with trust. We hire “C.I.A. members. They prove themself in the interview process, and they’re measured on performance thereafter. The 50% rule. If someone can do it half as well as you can, delegate it!MJ > LeBronHere are the 5 bullet points to effective delegation.Know the difference between delegating and dumping. Don’t “dump” something on somebody just because you don’t want to do it. Know your audience. Recognize the responsibility and the person you’re operating with so you know what they can handle and what they can’t. Situational leadership is adapting to the needs of a situation and the needs and the abilities of those you’re leading. You’re not giving them tasks. You're giving them responsibility. This is empowerment. Let them 'champion' something. The 2 most important things that every person needs and deserves in a professional relationship is clarity and direction. Set very clear expectations on what you’re asking for, and allow that person the opportunity to get it done. Results oriented delegation. When we're working to achieve our own results and goals, OUR focus should be on the steps we take to get there. When we DELEGATE, it's the complete opposite. Stay focused on the results.Prioritize communication. When there's a breakdown in communication, a void gets created, and oftentimes negativity fills that void. Here’s why delegation should be paired with accountability meetings. Meet to assess the situation, ask questions, and provide guidance and support when necessary.Coaching opportunity… but it’s for them first! When coaching someone we've delegated a task to, we should ask them to coach themselves first before we share feedback regarding opportunity areas.Have a great day, everyone. Don’t forget to smile today. Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. I’m Josh Parnell, reminding you to keep leading well.
