James “Alamo” Lynch Fox’s Pizza, Guinness, Big Corner Tavern, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour as we return to our First Responders Tour at our new recording location, Big Corner Tavern, and this week we welcome back one of our favorite guests for the 13th time, James “Duke” Lynch AKA: Alamo! Alamo is a U.S Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and a retired 39 year veteran of the Chicago Police Department. This South Shore native attended St. Philip Neri School followed by Lyons Township High School. He is a man of valor, Bronze Star recipient, having lost both knees in the war and still returning to combat after his recovery in Hawaii. It’s no secret that Alamo is a devoted fan of John Wayne, admiring him so much that he had to repeat the 5th grade because he skipped school for a full month to go see “The Alamo” 60 times in the theater.. He even took time off work to attend John Wayne’s funeral and managed to find his way into the private section, rubbing shoulders with celebrities like Jimmy Stewart. This Chicago legend has been awarded more awards than we can count including the Friend Indeed Award for carrying two children out of a burning building as well as housing his neighbors after another fire. He spent 15 years as a bodyguard to Mayor Richard M. Daley and he shares the story of how Mayor M. Daley became a family friend and even attended his father’s wake. Last time he was on the show, Alamo told us about his first ever trip to Ireland as well as updating our listeners on the wonderful news that he is cancer free! These two pals discuss Duke’s improved health and he shares how great it was to be honored at the Sox game, especially on Memorial Day. These two pals dive into a variety of topics this week like the current social unrest surrounding the ‘woke’ movement and on a lighter note, Alamo revisits some fond childhood memories such as the time the choir he was a member of sang for the Pope. Even after 13 appearances, he still has plenty of untold stories to share here on Hibernian Radio like when he was guarding the grave of ‘Big Jim’ Colosimo! He ends another great interview by thanking our listeners for their prayers. Houli then brings us up to date on some upcoming events including the Emerald Society’s Annual Ribfest on June 26th at Lodge 7. We head over to the obituaries followed by a quick joke to end another great show with the Alamo!
