Det. Sgt. Jarlath Heveran Fox’s Pizza, Guinness, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour for our very first show at our newest recording location, The Beacon Pub in Forest Park and we are honored to have Forest Park’s Detective Sergeant Jarlath Heveran as our special guest this week. Jarlath grew up in a small town called Partry, County Mayo in Ireland with his parents and 4 siblings, 2 brothers & 2 sisters. He explains his reason for choosing Chicago as his home and admits he was heavily influenced by the local Gardai in Ireland who frequently visited their family-run grocery shop. When Jarlath and his wife, Joan, visited Chicago in ’86, as soon as he saw a cop at O’Hare, heis mind was made up. “That was it for me.. I had to come here!” He and his wife then made the move to Chicago in ’88 and he points out how welcome they felt moving here. He shares the story of how he came to get his first job by striking up a random conversation with his future boss. 3 years later, he set up his very own ‘Heveran’s Auto Body’ in Des Plaines and spent 19 wonderful years there.Jarlath has been a detective for over 14 years and he is affiliated with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. He also worked on the Crimes Against Children Task Force and shares some of the disturbing cases he worked on including capturing a guy who had an unimaginable amount of child pornography and who Jarlath described as ‘out of control’. These two discuss an array of topics this week including Jarlath’s hoped for his retirement next year and his plans to return to Ireland in the future. He and Houli share similar opinions on the current political climate and the ongoing ‘anti0cop’ movement. “Our leaders are allowing these people to destroy this great country!” Jarlath ends his wonderfully insightful interview by discussing some of the more interesting panhandlers he has seen around the city and he touches on the current fentanyl epidemic in the States. “Within the last couple of years, officers have become very sick from ingesting it.” He ends by giving some advice to our listeners – “Always be nice to the police!” We take a musical break with “Darling Girl from Clare” by Eimear Arkins followed by the upcoming local events including the 9th Irish American Movie Hooley at The Wilmette Theatre on Sept 22-24. Then we head over to the recent obituaries followed by a quick trip to ‘Houli-Town’.
